Dr. Md. Abul Kalam is a faculty member in the Faculty of Engineering and IT at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Australia. Prior to this, he was a faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Universiti Malaya from 2008 to 2022. His research focuses on internal combustion engines, biodiesel/biofuel, lubricant testing, and engine tribology. Prof Kalam earned his undergraduate degree from Bangladesh Institute of Technology (B.I.T) Khulna, also known as Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET), and his Master’s and Ph.D. from Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. He has been recognized as a “Highly Cited Researcher” in the field of engineering by Web of Science and Clarivate Analytics for the years 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2023.


In addition to his research accolades, Prof Kalam has received the ‘Universiti Malaya’s Excellence Award in 2017’ for outstanding achievement in the “Academic Staff with Most Highly Cited Paper (Sciences)” category and the Excellence Service Award in 2018. He was also honored with Malaysia’s research star award in the years 2018 and 2019. With about 300 technical papers, 28462 citations, and an H-index of 96 (Google Scholar), Prof Kalam has supervised 12 PhD students, 25 Master’s (By research), and 11 Master’s (by mix-mode) students.
